Give a Hoot, Take a Bite Out of Crime!

I was reminded today of the public service announcement cartoon character morality touting role models of my youth. Remember McGruff the Crime Dog? Or how about Woodsy Owl? For the truly stout of heart, Nancy Reagan. And Smokey Bear? Now he was old school, born in 1944. I’ve recently seen a Smokey Bear billboard, but what happened to the other guys? How are kids going to know what to do when the gangbangers at school start talking about bringing a gun with them? Do we even still have celebrities telling us about the more we know? Well, at least we’ve still got milk.
