My sister got married about one and a half weeks ago. I went down to Knoxville for the weekend and was an usher in the ceremony. It was nice, and of course my sister was beautiful. She seemed very happy, and I rejoice with her. I hope that her married life is long and wonderful.

In past weeks I have told people on at least two occasions that 2000 was not a leap year. I thought that leap years were those divisible by 4, unless it is divisible by 400, then it is not. However, I was properly informed this evening that I had the rule backwards. A leap year is any year divisible by 4, unless it ends with a 00 (e.g. 1800, 1900), then it is not a leap year. But if the 00 year is divisible by 400, then it is a leap year. So once every 400 years, we have a 00 year that is a leap year, but rest are not. There is a pretty convincing page that explains this.

While listening to WYCE, the coolest radio station in Grand Rapids, I heard a pretty gnarly song. It was by the Mountain Goats, and I think the song was “Palmcorder Yajna“, the single off of their newest album, We Shall All Be Healed. The song has a pretty tubular style, and the lyrics are intriguing. Apparently, the whole album is about a group of tweakers the songwriter knew. But what is a tweaker? I have done some minimal searching on the web, and cannot find anything that might fit. Is this some kind of California slang or something that I don’t know about?
